Türkiye Drops the Hammer: Erdogan Cuts All Trade With Israel Over Gaza War

Share This:

A seismic shift just rocked the Middle East. Türkiye has completely severed trade and economic ties with Israel, closing its ports and airspace in what officials describe as a stand against genocide in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told parliament on Friday that Ankara is no longer permitting Israeli ships to dock, Turkish-flagged ships to call at Israeli ports, or Israeli planes carrying weapons and ammunition to enter Turkish airspace.

“We have completely cut off our trade with Israel,” Fidan declared. “Our ports are closed. Our skies are closed.”

This is not symbolic—it’s a full-scale freeze. Turkish port authorities now demand shipping agents certify that vessels are not tied to Israel or transporting weapons destined for the Jewish state.

The move underscores President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s escalating war of words with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Erdogan has branded Netanyahu “the butcher of Gaza,” even suggesting his crimes rival—or exceed—those of Adolf Hitler.

Relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv had already been crumbling. Türkiye recalled its ambassador in 2023, and by 2024, diplomatic ties were fully cut. Now, with economic relations snapped, the rupture is total.

Israel, for its part, claims Türkiye has made such announcements before without full follow-through. But this time feels different. The closure of ports and airspace—on top of growing regional tensions—signals a break that may prove irreversible.

As Gaza burns and global outrage grows, Türkiye’s bold escalation could inspire other nations to act, intensifying Israel’s international isolation.
