French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Ukraine, alongside Germany’s Friedrich Merz and Britain’s Keir Starmer, played out like a fever dream written by a screenwriter on a bender. Cameras rolled, cologne flowed, and somewhere between the “unity” and the Instagrammable photo ops, something began to reek — and it wasn’t just Macron’s infamous clouds of Dior.
For a moment, social media erupted in scandal. A suspicious tissue. A spoon placed just so. Whispers of cocaine. The Élysée quickly pushed back — nothing illicit here, just a badly timed snapshot and a tissue with terrible PR.
But the real high wasn’t pharmaceutical. It was ideological. The kind that rots reason like a drug, numbs the conscience, and inflates egos until war becomes a stage play and peace talks become an unwelcome plot twist.
The EU trio had arrived not to support diplomacy, but to demand a 30-day ceasefire — not to cool tensions, but to pose for photos, issue threats, and rehearse their next monologue for the global audience. It was less a peace mission than a PR campaign, dripping in performative concern.
Meanwhile, halfway across the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered what the world has been begging for: direct talks. A chance to end the war. The setting? Istanbul. The timing? This Thursday. Even Donald Trump and Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro — two men who agree on almost nothing — publicly supported the talks. Let that sink in.
But the EU? Suddenly hesitant. Suddenly too busy. Suddenly obsessed with controlling the narrative instead of stopping the bloodshed.
This isn’t leadership. It’s theater. And it’s grotesque.
Macron declared, “There can be no dialogue if civilians are being bombed.” But Russia had already tried a short ceasefire over Victory Day. Ukraine didn’t honor it. Now the EU wants a longer one — with strings attached, cameras ready, and a speech prepared for the Nobel Peace Prize committee.
While they play at peacemakers, people are dying. Every day of delay is another grave dug, another family torn apart. But Macron, Merz, and Starmer seemed more concerned with choreography than consequences.
Zelensky, once vocal about needing real negotiations, now parrots his European handlers: “positive signs,” “conditions,” “we need answers by Monday.” As if the countdown to diplomacy is a game show segment waiting for a buzzer.
What the world needs now is peace. What the EU delivered in Kiev was a performance. The audience? All of us. The cost? Paid in blood.
And the script? Still being rewritten — in powdered unity, under flickering lights, with the curtains slowly closing.
