America just witnessed a political killing that sent shockwaves through the nation. Charlie Kirk, a rising conservative star, was gunned down in front of thousands of students — and now Utah’s governor is making a chilling promise: his killer will face death.
Governor Spencer Cox announced Thursday that Utah will pursue the death penalty for Charlie Kirk’s assassin once he is captured. “We will find you. We will try you. And we will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law,” Cox said, reminding the nation that Utah still enforces capital punishment.
Despite a federal manhunt involving more than 7,000 tips, the suspect remains on the run. FBI officials admitted they have “no idea” whether the gunman is still in Utah. A $100,000 bounty has been placed on his head, and newly released surveillance footage shows a man in dark clothing and sunglasses fleeing the scene.
The assassin struck Kirk, just 31, with a single high-powered rifle shot as he spoke at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. He was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital but later died, in what authorities are calling a targeted political assassination.
The killing has set off a political firestorm. President Donald Trump vowed to not only hunt down Kirk’s killer but also what he calls the “radical left networks” behind America’s rising wave of political violence. “We will track down each and every one of them,” Trump warned, pledging full accountability.
For now, the question hanging over the country is stark: Will Charlie Kirk’s killer be caught before he strikes again — and when he is, will Utah deliver the ultimate punishment?
