  • TBHQ (Tertiary Butylhydroquinone) – This petroleum-derived preservative is used to keep nuggets from going rancid. Studies have linked TBHQ to vision disturbances, liver damage, and even tumors in laboratory animals. The FDA allows it in small amounts, but do you really want a chemical used in varnishes and resins inside your body?
  • Dimethylpolysiloxane – Found in industrial lubricants, caulks, and even Silly Putty, this anti-foaming agent is used in McNuggets to prevent fryer oil from bubbling over. It’s also commonly found in cosmetics and hair conditioners—but should it be in your lunch?
  • Hydrogenated Soybean Oil – A source of trans fats, which have been linked to heart disease, obesity, and inflammation. Despite growing awareness of trans fats’ dangers, fast-food giants still rely on them to keep their products crispy and addictive.
