Just when you thought the Trump–Musk feud had hit peak drama, Elon threw more fuel on the fire—and lit the match himself.
In what might be his boldest move yet, Elon Musk—yes, that Elon—has publicly agreed that Donald Trump should be impeached. Not only that, the billionaire tech titan is now openly flirting with the idea of launching a brand-new political party to shake up the two-party system. The message is loud and clear: Musk isn’t just breaking up with Trump—he’s moving out, starting over, and maybe even running the whole damn show.
From Kingmaker to Rebel
On X (formerly Twitter), Musk responded to conservative blogger Ian Miles Cheong, who said, “Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him.” Musk’s reply? Just one word: “Yes.”
That’s not a slip or a vague emoji. That’s full-on political arson.
Earlier, Musk had boasted that without him, Trump wouldn’t have won at all. “Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51–49 in the Senate,” he wrote, slamming Trump’s “ingratitude.” Oof.
Third Party Charm Offensive?
Musk also tossed a political grenade into the echo chamber with a flash-poll to his 220 million followers:
“Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?”
Nearly 3 million votes flooded in within hours—81% said yes. If that’s not a warning shot across both parties’ bows, what is?
Trump Fires Back (Of Course)
Never one to let a jab go unanswered, Trump jumped onto Truth Social and called Musk’s meltdown predictable. He claimed Musk “knew for months” that EV tax credits were on the chopping block, and when it happened, “he just went CRAZY!”
Trump didn’t stop there. He threatened to cut billions in government subsidies and contracts tied to Musk’s companies. That includes everything from SpaceX launches to Tesla’s cozy EV incentives.
“The easiest way to save money in our Budget… is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump wrote, with signature flair.
What’s Really Going On?
After stepping down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has been railing against Trump’s signature tax and spending bill, calling it “pork-filled” and warning it would drive the U.S. into “debt slavery.”
The bill already passed the House and is now waiting for Senate approval. Trump wants it on his desk—and signed—by the Fourth of July.
But Musk isn’t backing down. He’s taking shots, shaking trees, and clearly looking to redefine his political identity beyond being Trump’s tech sidekick. Whether that leads to a new party, a civil war inside the GOP, or just more social media fireworks remains to be seen.
One thing’s certain: the bromance is dead, and the battle has only just begun.
