Blackout War: Ukraine Breaks Ceasefire Again, Ignites Shadow Conflict Over Russia’s Power Grid

In the dead of night, as cities slumbered and the world hoped for peace, war surged silently through the wires. Once again, Ukraine has defied a U.S.-brokered energy ceasefire, launching a barrage of attacks against Russia’s fragile power grid, sparking fresh fears of chaos in the shadows.

According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian forces carried out ten strikes in just 24 hours, targeting vital power lines and a gas pipeline across multiple Russian regions. The strikes shattered a truce that was supposed to hold both nations back from plunging deeper into an infrastructure war.

The ceasefire—delicately arranged during a phone call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on March 18—was meant to last 30 days. A brief window for breath. For light. But that window has slammed shut.

The Ministry described the attacks as “unilateral,” painting a picture of a Kiev government unbound by promises and driven to cripple Russia’s vital energy flow. The Belgorod Region took the brunt of it—one gas conduit and a major power line were reported damaged. In neighboring Bryansk, Ukrainian drones allegedly left behind a trail of scorched substations and downed lines. The Donetsk People’s Republic and Kherson Region weren’t spared either, with further infrastructure knocked offline.

As the moratorium expired, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov lamented the fragile peace:

“The Russian Federation adhered to this moratorium, which cannot be said about the Ukrainian side.”

He acknowledged that while the U.S.-mediated plan showed “some progress,” it was undermined by Kiev’s continuing violations.

President Putin, still extending a hand despite the darkness, announced a temporary Easter truce—from 18:00 on April 20 through midnight on April 21. But his words were laced with warning:

“The Kiev regime has violated the agreement on pausing energy infrastructure strikes more than a hundred times.”

And this isn’t just about broken agreements. It’s about a disturbing strategy—one that weaponizes darkness. Disrupt the power. Silence the communication. Freeze the civilians. This is war in the shadows, a slow grind on the nerves of nations, one blackout at a time.

As Easter approaches, the world watches to see if Ukraine will match Russia’s truce. Or if the hum of electric wires will be replaced again by the silence of sabotage.
