In a stunning act of defiance against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new law that hands out taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens — even as his state spirals deeper into debt.

A Law That Puts Illegal Aliens First
The new legislation, House Bill 460, guarantees state-funded scholarships, grants, room-and-board assistance, and other benefits for students who are “not otherwise eligible for federal financial aid” — in plain English, illegal immigrants.
Democrat state senator Celina Villanueva, who pushed the bill, celebrated it as a victory, saying the law ensures “no student is left behind because of where they were born.” But critics argue it leaves American-born students behind while privileging those who broke U.S. law to get here.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) didn’t hold back, blasting Pritzker’s move as “a slap in the face to hardworking Illinois families.”
The Bitter Irony: Cutting Programs, Expanding Perks
Here’s the kicker — just weeks ago, Pritzker axed a costly program, Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA), after its price tag ballooned to $404 million this year. He claimed the state couldn’t afford it.
Yet somehow, he’s now found the money to open up new benefits for illegal aliens. Ordinary taxpayers — the very people struggling with Illinois’ suffocating debt — are left wondering why their sacrifices are being ignored while their tax dollars are handed out like candy.
Positioning for Power
Political insiders say this is about more than state policy. With whispers of a 2028 presidential run, Pritzker is trying to crown himself as the anti-Trump, carving out a national profile by embracing illegal immigration while thumbing his nose at federal law.
But this gamble could backfire. Democrats already watched immigration chaos under Joe Biden erode public trust and fuel political backlash. Now, Pritzker is doubling down — in one of the most financially unstable states in America.
Who Really Pays the Price?
The chilling truth is that ordinary Illinoisans will foot the bill. Families already fighting to pay mortgages and tuition will watch their tax dollars diverted to people who aren’t even supposed to be in the country.
“It’s absolutely shameful,” Miller said. “Our state is drowning in debt, yet JB Pritzker is determined to drain even more taxpayer dollars to reward illegals.”
