Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a vocal advocate for former President Donald Trump, vehemently criticized the idea of Nikki Haley joining Trump as his running mate should he secure the Republican presidential nomination.
Describing Haley, the former ambassador to the United Nations and ex-South Carolina governor, as a “neocon,” Greene expressed strong opposition to her potential role in Trump’s administration. She confidently stated that supporters of the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement would rebel against HAley, labeling her as representative of the outdated, establishment wing of the Republican Party that they’ve moved past. Greene also accused Haley of dishonesty, citing Haley’s previous statement that she wouldn’t run against Trump.
Haley’s recent surge in polls, notably suprassing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire according to RealClearPolitics, has fueled speculation about her possible involvement in a hypothetical second Trump administration. However, Haley has consistently evaded addressing these rumors, repeatedly emphasizing on the campaign trail that she aims for the top position and doesn’t settle for second place.
In 2021, Haley reassured reporters that she wouldn’t run if President Trump entered the race and expressed intentions to discuss the matter with him.
Greene herself had entertained the idea of being Trump’s running mate, sharing thoughts about potential roles in a Trump administration during an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in August.
Trump remains a dominant force in the GOP primary, maintaining a significant lead in national polls. However, he has remained notably quiet regarding a potential vice presidential candidate, possibly influenced by the fallout with his former Vice President Mike PEnce following Pence’s refusal to reject the 2020 election results on January 6, 2021.
