Panic rippled through Warsaw’s government district when authorities neutralized a suspicious drone on Monday. But the story took an unexpected twist: the suspects are a 21-year-old Ukrainian man and a 17-year-old Belarusian woman, raising questions about whether this was a serious security breach—or just a careless stunt.
Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesman for Poland’s special services minister, told reporters that investigators are still verifying identities and legal status. While some feared a spy operation, Dobrzynski suggested it might simply be youthful recklessness. “These are young people – perhaps it was due to carelessness, perhaps ignorance, perhaps because they wanted to make a film,” he said.
The drone incident comes amid heightened tensions in Eastern Europe. Last week, Polish officials claimed at least 19 Russian drones had entered national airspace, a statement quickly dismissed by Moscow as “unfounded.” NATO allies, including Romania, also reported alleged Russian drones near their borders, stoking fears of a broader threat.
