It’s one thing to leave office. It’s another to discover that even your most loyal donors don’t want their names on your legacy. That’s the uncomfortable reality facing Joe Biden as he struggles to raise funds for his presidential library—an institution meant to cement his place in history. Instead, it looks like donors are turning their backs, demanding refunds, and questioning whether a Biden library will ever exist at all.
According to NBC News, Biden’s team is hunting for up to $300 million to finance his presidential library. But the calls aren’t being answered. More than half a dozen former fundraisers and big-dollar contributors say they’re not interested. Some are furious their donations were redirected to Kamala Harris’ campaign after Biden dropped out in 2024. One prominent Florida lawyer went so far as to quip that the only Biden “library” America might see is a bookmobile from the 1950s.
The rejection isn’t just about money—it’s about betrayal and disappointment. Donors feel ignored, sidelined, even disrespected. They say Biden’s inner circle shut them out and never expressed gratitude for the millions raised during his campaigns. Now, when asked to help immortalize his presidency, their response is blunt: No way.
This stands in stark contrast to other modern presidents. Barack Obama raised close to $850 million for his Chicago-based library, set to open next year. Even Donald Trump, amid nonstop controversy, has managed to secure eye-popping contributions—including a $400 million luxury jet gifted by Qatari royalty to his foundation. Against that backdrop, Biden’s struggles look less like a logistical hiccup and more like a sign that his legacy is already slipping through his fingers.
The symbolism here is hard to ignore. Presidential libraries aren’t just buildings filled with archives. They’re monuments to power, permanence, and pride. If Biden can’t convince his own party’s elite donors to invest in his story, what does that say about how history will remember him?
Maybe the question isn’t whether Biden will get his library—it’s whether America even wants one.
