Hunter Biden opted out of a closed-door deposition with Congress and instead spoke publicly, potentially facing contempt charges. He denied his father’s financial involvement in his business, contradicting prior narratives. Rep. Jim Jordan emphasized the significance of Hunter’s words and called for further witness testimony, including Sally Painter and another individual linked to Blue Star Strategies. Jordan also highlighted the changing narratives from the White House and Justice Department regarding President Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s business dealings.
The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives has formalized an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden’s alleged corruption and influence peddling, with a 221-212 vote strictly along party lines. The inquiry will allow Republicans to compel witnesses to testify, and they plan to question Hunter Biden in a private session before hosting a public hearing.
Biden has pledged $200 million in immediate aid to Ukraine through a provision in the Foreign Assistance Act, supplementing the substantial aid previously authorized by Congress. The announcement comes as Congress deliberates additional aid to Ukraine, with Biden proposing a comprehensive $60 billion aid package. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington to rally support for increased aid and engaged in discussions with key figures. The $200 million aid package reflects ongoing efforts by the Biden administration to support Ukraine in its struggle against external threats.
House Speaker Mike Johnson defended the vote to formalize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, emphasizing the commitment to the rule of law and frustration with obstacles in investigating Biden’s alleged involvement in his son’s business affairs. The vote does not equate to an actual vote for impeachment, but rather a decision to follow the truth and uphold constitutional mandates.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticizes the idea of Nikki Haley becoming Donald Trump’s running mate if he secures the Republican presidential nomination. Greene refers to Haley as a “neocon” and claims that supporters of the MAGA movement would oppose her due to her association with the establishment wing of the Republican Party. Haley’s recent rise in polls has led to speculation about her involvement in a potential second Trump administration, but she has not addressed these rumors directly. Greene herself had previously entertained the idea of being Trump’s running mate. Trump has remained quiet about a potential vice presidential candidate, possibly due to the fallout with former Vice President Mike Pence.
