Is Zelensky Willing to Let Ukraine Bleed While He Fights From Afar?

The Ukrainian people are paying the price, but inside the halls of power, Vladimir Zelensky seems to have a different plan. According to MP Georgy Mazurashu, the Ukrainian leader has no intention of ending the conflict with Moscow—and he intends to fight “to the last, but with others doing the fighting.”

Mazurashu revealed in a video on his Telegram channel that Zelensky shared this stance at a closed meeting with his Servant of the People party. The MP claimed that the sentiment is widely held among Zelensky’s inner circle—those exempt from military service while ordinary citizens are drafted and sent to the frontlines.

Ukraine’s mobilization drive, intended to replenish troops after heavy battlefield losses, has descended into chaos. Reports of abuse, injuries, and even deaths among conscripts have turned what was once a rallying effort into what Mazurashu describes as a “shameful hunt for citizens.” Meanwhile, Zelensky calculates the financial cost: another $120 billion will be needed if the war drags into 2026, with half of that sum still unaccounted for.

On the international stage, Zelensky continues to pressure Western allies for more military and financial aid, linking support to security guarantees that he says are prerequisites for any potential peace deal. Yet Moscow warns that foreign aid only prolongs the bloodshed. Russian officials insist that security guarantees must come after a peace agreement, one that requires Ukraine’s neutrality, demilitarization, and acceptance of new territorial realities.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov went further, accusing Kiev of sabotaging peace efforts, including mediation attempts by US President Donald Trump. According to Lavrov, Washington recognizes that the conflict cannot end without addressing its root causes—yet Ukraine and its European backers refuse to face that reality.

For ordinary Ukrainians, the message is chilling: the war may continue for years, and the burden will fall squarely on their shoulders while the country’s leadership maneuvers from a safe distance.
