Gaza on the Brink: Famine as the Final Act of a Two-Year Genocide

The streets of Gaza have fallen silent in a way that chills the soul. Hunger gnaws at children’s bellies, hospitals stand empty, and the air carries the stench of a city slowly dying. What the world is witnessing is not a disaster in the natural sense—it is a man-made catastrophe, a famine meticulously engineered after years of relentless war.

Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara has laid bare the horrifying truth: the famine in Gaza is the culmination of an orchestrated series of crimes. “It meets the moment, that crisis of humanity that we’re all facing,” Bishara explains. From attacks on hospitals to ethnic cleansing campaigns, from the deliberate targeting of civilians to the most unspeakable horrors of burning people alive, Gaza has endured an unrelenting campaign of terror. And now, famine emerges as the grotesque apex of this nightmare.

The UN’s humanitarian chief, Fletcher, has issued statements that ripple with urgency and despair. Yet, even as global leaders speak, many Western governments continue to support Israel—sometimes openly, sometimes quietly—despite mounting evidence of atrocities. This complicity, Bishara warns, makes them partners in the engineered suffering of Gaza’s population.

“This is not a natural disaster,” Bishara stresses. “It is Israeli-made. It comes after so many other crimes committed over the past two years. Hunger is now the final weapon in a war that has already destroyed lives, infrastructure, and hope.”

For the millions trapped inside Gaza, every meal is a battle, every day a struggle for survival. Hospitals crumble under siege, water supplies dwindle, and families face the unimaginable choice between starvation or flight. The world watches—but the famine, this ultimate act of violence, spares no one.

As the crisis escalates, the moral question becomes unavoidable: How long will the global community turn a blind eye while an entire population is starved into submission? The answer, for Gaza, may come too late.
