Let’s back up for a second. Autopens aren’t new. Presidents from both parties have used them for decades — usually when traveling or juggling multiple crises at once. They’re basically mechanical signature machines, not stealthy robots plotting policy coups.
But Trump? He’s not buying it.
In a post that read like a mix of warning and declaration, Trump said roughly 92% of Biden’s executive orders were signed by autopen. If that number is accurate (big “if,” obviously), it would mean most of Biden’s directives never had his physical signature. And Trump is using that to argue they never had legal weight to begin with.
Here’s where it gets strange… Trump claims Biden was too impaired near the end of his term to personally review what was being signed — hinting that aides may have slipped decisions past him using that mechanical pen.
Whether that’s true or just political theater, it definitely sets up a dramatic showdown.
So What Exactly Did Trump Cancel?
According to Trump, every executive order not directly signed by Biden is now wiped out. Gone. Null. Done.
He didn’t mince words either — calling the autopen operators “illegal” and suggesting criminal consequences if Biden now says he approved those documents. That’s… not subtle.
But nobody talks about this part:
Even if Trump can revoke Biden’s executive orders, presidential pardons are a totally different story. Legal experts have already said there’s no way to undo clemency once granted, autopen or not. That’s locked in — even if critics complained Biden’s final batch of pardons looked rushed or oddly timed.
The Oversight Committee Joins the Game
Of course, Washington can’t resist a scandal with paperwork attached. The Republican-led House Oversight Committee is now digging into Biden’s autopen authorization. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the Justice Department is reviewing it too.
Apparently, investigators couldn’t find documentation proving Biden had authorized the machine for every directive it signed.
Is that a clerical oversight? A missing memo? Or something bigger? Depends on who you ask.
And in the middle of all this, there’s one more bizarre detail: earlier this year, Trump replaced Biden’s White House portrait with a framed picture… of an autopen. That pretty much sums up the mood.
