What Keeps Us Up at Night—And Why the Government Doesn’t Care

Let’s talk about fear. Real fear. The kind that gnaws at your stomach when the bills pile up and you realize your paycheck doesn’t stretch like it used to. The kind that comes when your hometown starts to feel like a stranger’s city. The kind that whispers in your ear, “This isn’t sustainable.”

Because here’s the raw truth: when I talk to everyday Canadians—the kind who work for a living, raise families, and try to make it through another month without falling behind—three things come up again and again:
Mass immigration.
The skyrocketing cost of living.
And an economy that feels like it’s held together with duct tape and denial.

These aren’t abstract concerns. These are the realities folks see on their streets, in their grocery bills, and in their kids’ future (or lack thereof). But what does our government say we’re all supposedly worried about?

Donald Trump.
Climate change.
…And, wait for it—Donald Trump again.

You read that right. Apparently, the biggest concern in Canada right now is a former U.S. president who lives 3,000 miles away and can’t even vote in our elections. Twice.

It’s almost impressive, in a horrifying sort of way. Either the government is so catastrophically out of touch with real Canadians that they’re breathing rarefied air, or—and this is far more likely—they’re selling a narrative. One that distracts. One that divides. One that makes damn sure we’re not asking the hard questions about where our country is really heading.

Why acknowledge the inflation that’s choking our wallets when you can cry “Trump!” every time someone asks about housing?
Why talk about immigration policy when the climate apocalypse is just around the corner (so they say)?
Why deal with any of it when you can virtue-signal, blame others, and dodge accountability?

It’s no accident. This is by design.

While we struggle to put food on the table, they’re feeding us fear of someone else’s bogeyman.
While we beg for affordable homes, they serve us soundbites about sea levels.
And while our communities change faster than we can process, they tell us to shut up or be labeled something nasty.

This is not leadership.
This is gaslighting.

They know exactly what they’re doing. And they’re betting you’ll be too distracted, too tired, too scared to call them on it. But guess what?

We’re not scared.
We’re awake.
And we’re done being lied to.
