Trump-Approved Navy SEAL Mission in North Korea Killed Civilians in Secret Operation

A shadowy mission deep inside North Korea has surfaced, revealing a dangerous gamble that ended in civilian deaths. According to the New York Times, SEAL Team Six, the elite U.S. Navy unit famous for taking out Osama bin Laden, carried out a covert operation in 2019 that may have violated international law.

The mission, reportedly authorized by President Donald Trump, aimed to plant a surveillance device to intercept communications of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, bolstering America’s leverage in nuclear negotiations. But the operation went horribly wrong.

Commandos launched from submarines and approached the North Korean coast using mini-submersibles under cover of night. Mistaking nearby unarmed fishermen for hostile forces, SEALs opened fire, killing two or three civilians. Officials reported that the bodies were retrieved, punctured to sink, and the mission abandoned before reaching the target.

Communication failures compounded the disaster: radio contact with supporting submarines failed, drones were unavailable, and satellite imagery was outdated. A classified military review concluded the deaths resulted from “an unfortunate sequence” of unforeseeable events rather than deliberate misconduct—but the mission was never disclosed to Congress, raising serious questions about oversight and legality.

The incident remained secret until now. North Korea has not acknowledged it, and it’s unclear whether Pyongyang learned of the killings. The mission occurred amid Trump’s attempts to secure a nuclear breakthrough with Kim, which ultimately failed. Today, North Korea reportedly possesses about 50 nuclear warheads and missiles capable of striking the U.S., underscoring the stakes of these high-risk operations.
