In a distressing turn, an officer was hospitalized subsequent to being assaulted by a protester who not only physically attacked her but also attempted to cause severe harm to her eyes. Addison asserted that the police resorted to using a Taser to subdue the 27-year-old suspect, who is presently in custody. Another individual was detained for obstructing police proceedings but was later released.

Previous Encounter at Indian Restaurant

Before the incident at the Chinatown venue, earlier that day, Trudeau faced protests at an Indian restaurant in another district of the city. A circulated video on social media captured activists confronting the prime minister while he was seated, vociferously advocating for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza. The demonstrators chanted phrases like “Shame on you!” and “Justin Trudeau, you fund genocide!” Promptly, the prime minister vacated the premises without engaging with the activists.

Activists’ Demand for Canadian Intervention

Charlotte Kates, a representative from the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network present at both protests, communicated to the press that the activists were demanding Canada to take a firm stance concerning Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Trudeau’s Stance and Netanyahu’s Response

Trudeau, in a statement on Tuesday, urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to exhibit utmost restraint in the ongoing conflict with Gaza. Gaza officials report that the IDF’s bombardment of the area has resulted in the deaths of over 11,000 Palestinians. Israel, in response to a raid by the militant group on October 7, declared war on Hamas, which claimed the lives of 1,200 Israelis.

Netanyahu rebuffed Trudeau’s critique, maintaining that the Israeli military does not purposefully target civilians and attributing the responsibility for all casualties in Gaza to Hamas.

Regarding the subject of the article, Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries and international bodies, including the United States, the European Union, Canada, Israel, and others.
