I love my country. I really do. There’s a lot to be proud of—our history, our culture, our resilience in the face of challenges. But, let’s be honest, there’s a growing problem that’s getting harder and harder to ignore. It’s the collective ignorance that seems to be spreading like wildfire among the American people. And it’s this ignorance that’s allowing so-called public servants to run amok, abusing their positions of trust and pushing policies that serve their own agendas, all at the expense of the very nation they’re supposed to be protecting.
The Rise of Ignorance in America
Now, I’m not saying that everyone’s ignorant. Far from it. But it feels like the voices of those who are uninformed, or worse, misinformed, are getting louder and more influential. Social media, 24-hour news cycles, and the endless barrage of opinions masquerading as facts have created a perfect storm where fact-based logic is no longer the guiding principle in decision-making. Instead, emotions, biases, and personal beliefs have taken the driver’s seat.
Public Servants or Self-Servants?
This wave of ignorance has given rise to a new breed of public servants—if we can even call them that. These individuals have mastered the art of exploiting public ignorance to further their own goals. They know how to twist facts, manipulate narratives, and appeal to the basest instincts of the electorate. And the scariest part? They’re getting away with it.
Think about it. How many times have we seen politicians push through policies that blatantly benefit a select few while leaving the majority to pick up the pieces? It’s not about serving the public anymore; it’s about serving themselves. And why are they able to do this? Because the collective ignorance of the people provides them with the cover they need.
The Death of Fact-Based Logic
Remember when facts mattered? When decisions were made based on evidence, research, and sound reasoning? Those days seem like a distant memory now. Today, it’s all about who can shout the loudest, who can spin the best story, and who can rally the most followers—regardless of the truth.
We’ve reached a point where fact-based logic is often dismissed as elitist or out of touch with “real” America. Instead of seeking out the truth, many people are content to believe what they want to believe, regardless of the evidence. And this, my friends, is incredibly dangerous.
Where Do We Go From Here?
So, what can we do about it? How do we combat the growing ignorance and ensure that our public servants actually serve the public? It starts with education—real education. We need to encourage critical thinking, teach people how to discern fact from fiction, and foster a culture where facts are valued over feelings.
It also requires us, as citizens, to hold our leaders accountable. We can’t afford to be passive observers anymore. We need to stay informed, ask tough questions, and demand transparency and integrity from those in power.
Most importantly, we need to reclaim the importance of fact-based logic in our society. Emotions have their place, but they should never overshadow the truth. If we can do that, maybe, just maybe, we can start to turn the tide.
Because at the end of the day, I love my country. But I refuse to let ignorance be the thing that destroys it.
