New details are emerging, slowly pulling back the veil on Jeffrey Epstein’s shadowy world. Recent Department of Justice emails reveal something unsettling: beneath at least two of Epstein’s properties lay complex underground tunnels and bunkers. These weren’t incidental basements—they were secret, meticulously maintained networks stretching beneath his island retreat and his sprawling New Mexico ranch.
The Caribbean Island’s Subterranean Maze
One of the earliest clues surfaced in 2009. An email described architectural work on Epstein’s private island, Little Saint James, noting a “team that added tunnels and office below the main house.” A hired architecture firm confirmed plans for a “subterranean screening room,” but abruptly severed ties before the project finished.
Yet Epstein’s fixation on these hidden spaces never waned. Years later, he sent detailed instructions about the tunnels—insisting on floors being completed, equipment being moved, and continual upkeep. By 2015, aides confirmed the “tunnel floor completed,” alongside architectural plans outlining both the tunnel and adjoining maintenance buildings.
The Island wasn’t the only place. The network expanded.
Underground Layers at the Zorro Ranch
Epstein’s New Mexico estate, the Zorro Ranch, appears even more elaborate beneath the surface. Emails from 2017 included images hinting at six underground levels accessible by a “sub cellar elevator.” Epstein himself sought advice on reorganizing the “tunnel system,” floating ideas from practical uses—laundry relocation and staff accommodations—to more curious suggestions: a “ballet room” or “cots” within the tunnels.
By 2018, the tunnels had morphed into operational hubs housing woodworking shops, paint supplies, landscaping equipment, and storage for timber and tropical shipments. Conversations referenced the need for controlled spaces for chemicals like insecticides and fertilizers.
A trapdoor found in a maintenance room—captured in prior DOJ images—remains a silent question mark, possibly linking to this subterranean maze.
Open Discussions in a Closed World
Epstein didn’t keep these tunnels secret from his close circle. Hollywood publicist Peggy Siegal casually asked in 2018 whether staff still “sleeping in the tunnels” and if furniture had been “retrieved out of the ocean.” Maintenance requests persisted up to 2019—fans to combat rust, painting floors, and general cleanup.
Work in these tunnels was ongoing even weeks before Epstein’s arrest in July 2019. Emails show active discussions about renovations, floor repairs, and organizing the various tunnel spaces.
The Wider Implications
These revelations add a new layer to the intricate and disturbing puzzle of Epstein’s operations. The extensive, hidden infrastructure—secret tunnels and underground bunkers—suggests a level of planning and secrecy far beyond what was publicly known.
Why the obsession with subterranean spaces? What were these tunnels truly for? And who else might have been aware of these hidden depths?
As demands grow for transparency, these underground networks stand as silent witnesses to a shadow world still only partially illuminated. Epstein’s tunnels may well hold answers not only about the man himself but the larger, concealed structures supporting him.
